Are Refurbished Phones Reliable? Everything You Need to Know

Reliability is the number one concern for first-time refurbished buyers. Here's what really happens before a phone reaches your door.

By James Holloway Technical Editor6 min read

Concerns about reliability are the number one reason UK buyers hesitate before going refurbished. The good news? When you buy from a reputable seller, refurbished phones are just as dependable as new — and often more reliable than used handsets sold privately.

How refurbished phones are tested

Every device passes through a 90-point check covering battery health, screen quality, cameras, speakers, sensors and connectivity. Read more in our 90-point quality check explained article.

Common components that are replaced

Batteries are checked and often replaced if they fall below 85% capacity. Screens with deep scratches or dead pixels are swapped. Charging ports, speakers and cameras are tested and replaced if defective.

Warranty protection

All our refurbished phones come with a minimum 12-month warranty. Full coverage details are on our warranty page, and you can return any device through our returns process.

Reliability vs new phones

Surprisingly, refurbished phones can sometimes outperform new ones in reliability tests because every unit is individually inspected — whereas new phones rely on factory quality control alone.

Frequently asked questions

Do refurbished phones have shorter lifespans?

No. With proper care, refurbished phones last just as long as new ones — typically 4-6 years.

What happens if my refurbished phone develops a fault?

Contact our team via the contact page and we'll repair, replace, or refund under warranty.
